GRAYHAWKS CHEERLEADING REGISTRATION Info
Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Grayhawks Cheerleading team.
We look forward to welcoming your child to the Grayhawks Cheerleading program this season. Our program will focus on learning the fundamentals of the game of football, cheerleading essentials, as well as age-appropriate safe stunting. In addition to the fun and friendships our program will provide, our program also serves as great preparation for those who intend to move on to high school cheerleading.
Registration for the 2024 Grayhawks Cheerleading Season will close on July 1, 2024. We reserve the right to cap participation if necessary. *Please note that there are no refunds for any reason, as we utilize registration funds to order personalized materials to arrive by the start of the season.*
Teams
This season, we intend to have two or three squads (dependent upon registration numbers):
· Pee Wee - Grades 1-2
· Junior Varsity (JV) – Grades 3-5
· Varsity – Grades 6-8
Each squad will practice separately and will cheer at separate games aligned with the football teams. Each squad will have practice for 1.5 - 2 hours, 1x/week, and cheer in a game 1x/weekend (dependent upon grade level Grayhawks football game schedule).
Throughout the season, we rely on the Varsity girls to serve as role models for our younger teammates. However, Pee Wee, JV, and Varsity teams will be in separate areas for most practices/games, allowing all to practice and cheer at their appropriate skill level.
Depending on the enrollment numbers and individual skill level, we reserve the right to shift individuals between squads if needed.
CHEER CAMP
Cheer Camp will take place at the RVA pavilions on the following days:
· Camp Day 1: Mon. Aug. 26, 4:30-7:00
· Camp Day 2: Tues. Aug. 27, 4:30-7:00
· Camp Day 3: Thurs. Aug. 29, 4:30-7:00
Your child must attend the camp sessions. We will learn all the cheers, stunts, and dances during camp.
Cheerleaders in the highest grade of each squad will have the opportunity to try out for Team Captains during camp. Cheerleaders will be expected to write a bit about why they wish to be considered for the role and speak with coaches for a few minutes about the responsibility. More information on captain selection will be provided following registration.
A note on the dates: We recognize camp takes place during the last days of summer vacation, and many will have their first day of school on Aug. 28. We are trying our best to squeeze in the camp to allow you to enjoy your last full week of summer and Labor Day weekend. We appreciate any flexibility you have on your end to ensure your child’s participation.
UNIFORMS
Grayhawks will provide the cheerleading uniforms and pom-poms. You will be required to return these at the end of the season. We will also purchase each cheerleader a personalized Grayhawks Cheerleading warm-up jacket, a bag for carrying cheer items to games, and cheer bows. These items will be yours to keep.
Each cheerleader will be responsible for purchasing the following items and ensuring all items are in their cheer bag for each game:
· short black spandex shorts (can wear at practice and under skirts at games)
· black stretch pants/yoga pants (can wear at practice and under skirts at games)
· black long sleeve athletic shirt/turtleneck (can wear under shells at games)
