Frequently Asked Questions
The earliest we can start is August 1st but we usually hold our first practices the second week in August. Practice runs from 5:45 to 7:30 PM on Monday through Thursday. We practice at the RVA fields in Boonton Township until the first game, then move to Boonton High School baseball outfield. We normally practice three days a week during the regular season. We may have a walk-thru practice on Saturday mornings as well.
The first game is the week after Labor Day Weekend.
We usually have eight weekend games. Game times and days vary from week to week but typically fall on Saturday evenings or on Sunday. Each level has a game each weekend. The 3rd/4th-grade game happens first, starting at 5:00 PM on Saturday evening or at noon on Sundays. Each game is no more than 1 ½ hours. The season normally ends the first week in November but playoffs could extend it for two more weeks.
We try to play as many kids as possible in each game. The size of the team will ultimately determine individual playing time. If we have more than 24 kids on a team, we try to have a second game on Monday or Tuesday night depending on field availability. The coaches will determine playing time on a week-to-week basis.
You will need to provide your child with a pair of cleats (and sneakers) and a molded mouthpiece. We supply the helmet, shoulder pads, pants, game jersey, and practice jersey.
All coaches are required to take a USA Football safety and coaching course before the start of the season. We also have coaching clinics and classes run by the high school head coaches. Additionally, we encourage our staff to go to county-level clinics that are run by the Morris County High School Coaches League and the presenters are usually college-level coaches. For each game we have an athletic trainer on-site and also may have EMTs at the field to evaluate injuries.
We encourage everyone to be open and honest with one another and all coaches are instructed to answer questions that parents have. If there are any issues or concerns with a coach, please email John Whritenour or David Loeffler. If your concern needs additional attention, you can email Coach Fusco from Mountain Lakes High School or Coach Gallagher from Boonton High School. All emails are listed on our contact page.
